Book design
The Shri Mahabharata book for Baala Bharati, an educational initiative of Sri Sharada Peetham, builds on the visual language of Shrimad Ramayana while developing its own distinct identity. Inspired by traditional Odisha Pattachitra, the design introduces readers, especially children, to Indian art traditions through a fresh visual expression.

The design of Shri Mahabharata builds on the visual language we developed for Shrimad Ramayana, keeping the two books connected while giving each its own character. As in the Ramayana, Odisha Pattachitra inspires the illustrations, colours and borders, bringing a shared visual identity rooted in the tradition of Sringeri.
The page layouts take inspiration from the geometry and arrangement of the traditional Pagade game mat, which informs the way content is organised across the book. Each Parva, or group of Parvas, is treated as a distinct section, with colours chosen to reflect its bhava and mood. We also looked at the book as a three-dimensional object, using coloured borders to mark the pre-war, war, Bhagavad Gita and post-war sections. These choices allow each section to stand on its own while bringing the entire book together as a cohesive whole
